This Wal-Mart is, in our opinion, the crown jewel for “big box” environmentally sensitive site planning and design development. This project was truly designed to make a light footprint on the environment. The site plan provided natural buffers from environmentally sensitive features of the existing site. It was architecturally designed to accommodate existing tree clusters at the façade, and features an underground irrigation tank to supply roof and condensate generated water to the all-native plantings. The Wildflower Research Center installed an experimental turf grass plot within the parking lot medians to test multi-species solutions to native grasses. Coleman & Associates provided all permitting, landscape and irrigation design, and worked closely with the civil engineer and tree preservation specialist to make this project the resounding success that it is.
