Texas Wine on the Mind

We’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel that is the COVID-19 pandemic. If you’re like us, you might be realizing it’s time to venture out from behind your computer monitors in the deep dark confines of your home offices (or dungeons) and start exploring and tasting the great flavors that the lovely state of Texas has to offer.

Coleman & Associates is very fortunate to have its very own in-house Fredericksburg connoisseur—Ashley Scroggs—who we asked to put together a list of her favorite wineries to share with our clients. Below, you will find photos and descriptions of the best places to drink, relax, and explore in this unique German, gem of a town.

Top 5 Wineries

(according to Ashley)

5. Crowson Wines *Johnson CityAshley visits this winery every time she visits Fredericksburg. The owner, Henry Crowson is incredibly charismatic and so passionate. He does “non-interventionist” wines, which means there are no additives. The wine ferments off the natural yeast of the grapes. Make sure to call for reservations!

4. Augusta VinThis is a newer winery in the Fredericksburg area, but it’s already one of the more popular spots. The vineyard also offers wine tastings, VIP Tours, and they sell charcuterie. Try to get a reservation up on the balcony. It’s the best place to hang!Photo credit: https://www.visitfredericksburgtx.com/listing/augusta-vin-winery/292/

1. Calais Winery *Hye, TXDon’t be thrown by the shed-like appearance. This winery provides quite the sipping experience. The owner, Ben Calais, is from Calais, France. It’s all very Calais. We ranked this #1; not only for its incredible wine but because you have the opportunity to enjoy a glass in this wine cave, which extends down below the earth’s surface into a cellar and tasting room.Photo Credit: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/texas/underground-wine-cave-tx/
